RE: YEAR 2000 SURVEY - SECOND REQUEST

As you may recall, the Institute sent a questionnaire regarding Y2K planning and readiness on
March 16, 1998. A list of members who responded is attached along with preliminary results of the
survey. If you find your firmGs name on the list of respondents, please accept our thanks for your
cooperation and assistance. If your firm is not listed, please take a few moments to complete the
enclosed brief questionnaire (attached to the original March 16 memo)and fax it to Agnes Thomas at fax
no. 202-326-8314 as soon as possible. The enclosed preliminary results represent members accounting
for 40.7 percent of the industry (by assets). We need to have a higher response rate in order to be
sufficiently informed about the industryGs current level of preparedness to faithfully represent the
industry on this matter to the many interested parties now looking to the Institute for such information.
