MEETING ON EXCISE TAX PROPOSAL - FEBRUARY 18, 1997
On January 15, 1997, the Tax Committee met to discuss a proposal under consideration
for modifying the distribution requirements of section 4982.1 Most of the meeting was devoted
to analyzing the mechanical aspects of the proposal, through a series of examples, and
considering whether the proposal’s goal of simplifying the interaction between section 4982
and the distribution requirements of Subchapter M would be achieved.
On February 18, 1997 (the day before the regularly-scheduled Tax Committee meeting),
another meeting will be held to discuss the proposal further. The meeting will begin in the
Institute’s David Silver Conference Room (on the 12th Floor of 1401 H Street, N.W.,
Washington, DC) at 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be available before the meeting, beginning at 1:00
p.m.
TAX COMMITTEE DINNER - FEBRUARY 18, 1997
Arrangements are being made to hold a dinner at a moderately-priced restaurant within
a few blocks of the Institute. We will provide additional information soon regarding the dinner
(time, location, etc.) to those interested in attending. As in the past, the cost of the dinner will
be divided evenly among those attending.
