VIA FAX May 21, 1996 TO: PENSION COMMITTEE No. 18-96 RE: NOTICE OF MEETING ON RETIREMENT STATISTICS DATA COLLECTION WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5, 1995 ______________________________________________________________________________ We have scheduled a meeting to discuss the Institute
s current data collection efforts regarding retirement statistics. The meeting will commence at 1:00 p.m. at the Investment Company Institute, 1401 H Street, N.W., 12th Floor, Washington, D.C. A lunch will be served at noon prior to the meeting. The Institute is currently reviewing its retirement data survey instruments and its specific data needs. We are seeking to revise our current data collection efforts by consolidating the number of surveys now used, reducing duplication and addressing problems that members have had responding to current requests for data. The purpose of this meeting is to facilitate these efforts. As you know, both the Institute and the industry have a growing need to collect and analyze retirement market data. Such information is extremely vital, for instance, in demonstrating the successful implementation of various retirement and related tax laws and policies and in identifying retirement policy needs and proposing solutions. In addition to Pension Committee members, we are also inviting other individuals identified as either responsible for responding to Institute surveys or familiar with the issues arising from efforts to gather such data. If there are particular individuals at your firm who you believe could assist in our review, please invite them to attend the June 5 meeting. If you cannot attend the June 5 meeting, please identify an appropriate substitute to attend in your place. To assist us in obtaining an accurate number of attendees, please respond by Friday, May 31, 1996 on the attached form and indicate if you or an alternate plan to attend the meeting and luncheon.
