As you know, the Institute is studying and monitoring the policy debate on social security
reform. Institute interest in this issue is a natural outgrowth of the Institute and industry s long-standing
involvement in other savings and retirement issues. In an effort to continue to educate the public and our
membership about social security reform issues, the Institute has published the recent remarks of
Stanford University economist John B. Shoven to the Institutes Board of Governors. We attach a copy
of these remarks for your review.
