1 See Institute Memoranda to Pension Members No. 54-95 dated December 20, 1995, describing the proposed plan asset regulation and Pension Members No. 56-95 dated December 21, 1995, describing pension audit reform legislation introduced in the Senate. January 18, 1996 VIA FAX TO: PENSION COMMITTEE No. 2-96 RE: MEETING ON DOL ENFORCEMENT ACTIVITY ______________________________________________________________________________ The Institute has scheduled a meeting to discuss legal and operational issues arising from recent Department of Labor activity. As previously reported,1 the Department of Labor has issued a proposed regulation that reduces the time period during which employers must deposit plan assets in trust and introduced legislation that would repeal the limited scope audit at ERISA Section 103(a)(3)(C). Additionally, as has been widely reported in the press, the Department has increased enforcement activity regarding the timely deposit of plan assets, with a particular focus on the 401(k) plan market. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7, 1996 at 9:30 a.m. in the Institute’s offices located at 1401 H Street, N.W. Lunch will be served following the meeting.
