RE: MARYLAND INVESTMENT ADVISER REGISTRATION DEADLINE

As we previously informed you, investment advisers and
investment adviser representatives must be registered with the
Maryland Securities Division by October 1, 1990 and the Division
released emergency regulations last July regarding registration
procedures. (See Memorandum to Investment Adviser Members No.
35-90 and Investment Adviser Associate Members No. 31-90, dated
July 24, 1990.)
The Institute has just learned that the Maryland Securities
Division staff understands that emergency regulation .17C, which
requires amendments to the registration to be filed within 30
days, could result in registration after the October 1, 1990
deadline in the event the staff requires amendments or
supplements to the initial registration. Therefore, the staff
has requested registration as soon as possible during the month
of September to ensure final registration by the October 1, 1990
deadline.
