RE: AGENDA ITEMS AND SPEAKERS AT JANUARY 2006 BOARD OF GOVERNORS
MEETING
As discussed last week, the Winter Board meeting will be held in Naples, Florida, beginning on
Monday, January 30 and concluding Wednesday morning, February 1, 2006. We will follow a
schedule similar to that of last January’s meeting. Monday morning, most of Tuesday and early
Wednesday morning will be devoted to business issues, including several informal group
discussion sessions, presentations by invited speakers and reports by Institute staff regarding
various policy issues. Monday and Tuesday afternoon will include social activities with your
spouse or invited guest. The Executive Committee will meet on Sunday afternoon, January 29th.
A dinner for Board members and guests will be held on Sunday evening. Additional details
about the meeting will be sent to you in the next few weeks.
The Winter Board meeting is an important opportunity for Governors to build relationships
with one another and to engage in discussions of issues important to mutual funds and their
shareholders. I hope you and your spouse or guest will be able to attend.
In order to ensure the meeting agenda includes the topics that are important to all Governors, I
would appreciate it if you could send me your suggestions for agenda items, group discussion
topics, and speakers. Please complete the attached survey and return it to Larry Maffia by
October 31, 2005. Please respond via fax to 202-326-5806. Your input will help us ensure the
meeting is a valuable session for all Governors.
If you have any questions about the meetings or the attached, please call either me (202-326-
5901) or Larry Maffia (202-326-5857).
Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to seeing you in January.

Speakers
We have extended an invitation to SEC Chairman Cox to join the Board for dinner and part of
the meeting. If his schedule does not allow him to attend, we plan to invite Commissioner
Nazareth or the new Director of the Division of Investment Management, if named. Other
individuals we are considering include Peter Wallison of the American Enterprise Institute and
Robert Litan of Brookings to discuss their work on mutual fund issues, John Thain, President
and CEO of the NYSE, and an expert (to be identified) on the effect the internet will have on
people’s buying and investing habits and how these changes will impact the way in which
financial service companies communicate with their customers. Please list any other speakers
you would like us to consider inviting to address the Board.
