[13046] January 17, 2001 TO: PENSION COMMITTEE No. 4-01 PENSION OPERATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE No. 4-01 RE: CONFERENCE CALL ON IRS PROPOSED REGULATIONS ON MINIMUM REQUIRED DISTRIBUTIONS – WEDNESDAY JANUARY 31, 2001 - 2:30 P.M. EST The Internal Revenue Service recently released proposed regulations that significantly simplify the minimum required distributions required under 401(a)(9) of the Code.1 Of particular interest to our members is a new reporting requirement for IRA trustees and custodians to report the annual MRD for each IRA to the taxpayer and the IRS. This requirement would apply regardless of whether the taxpayer chooses to take the MRD from that IRA or any other IRA. Comments on the proposed regulations are due to the IRS by April 19, 2001. In addition, the IRS has also scheduled a hearing on the proposed regulations on June 1, 2001. We have scheduled a conference call on Wednesday January 31, 2001 at 2:30 p.m. EST to discuss the proposed regulations.
