[11903] May 23, 2000 TO: PENSION MEMBERS No. 29-00 PENSION OPERATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE No. 36-00 RE: DOL RELEASES APPLICATION FORM FOR ELECTRONIC FILING OF FORM 5500 ______________________________________________________________________________ The Department of Labor recently released the application form for the electronic filing of Form 5500 returns/reports under the ERISA Filing Acceptance System (EFAST), the Department’s new computerized filing system.1 Beginning with the 1999 reporting year, parties that wish to file Forms 5500 or 5500-EZ electronically must submit the “Form EFAST-1.” The Form EFAST-1 may be submitted by individuals, companies, trades, businesses, or other persons for a number of purposes under EFAST. Specifically, the form may be used to (i) apply for an EFAST electronic signature, (ii) apply for EFAST codes necessary to transmit electronically Forms 5500 and 5500-EZ, (iii) apply for EFAST codes for purposes of becoming an EFAST software developer, and (iv) update information as an EFAST transmitter or software developer. Copies of the Form EFAST-1, instructions thereto, and the Department’s press release regarding the form are attached.
