RE: MEETING ON EXTENDED HOURS TRADING - OCTOBER 20, 1999

The Institute has scheduled a special meeting for interested members to discuss the implications
of extended hours trading on mutual funds. The purpose of the meeting is to identify and begin to
address potential issues for mutual funds associated with extended hours trading.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 20 in the Capital Hilton Hotel's Federal
Room. The Capital Hilton Hotel is located at 16th & K Streets NW, Washington, D.C. The meeting is
scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and will conclude by 5:00 p.m. If you require a hotel room the night of
October 20th, please call 1-800-HILTONS. To ensure the preferred room rate of $185.00 single/double,
please make your reservation prior to October 15, and be sure to identify yourself as an Investment
Company Institute (ICI) meeting attendee.
As you know, Nasdaq and the NYSE have announced that they intend to make their trade
reporting systems available to ECNs and others conducting after hours trading until approximately 6:30
p.m. beginning October 11. Further, both Nasdaq and the NYSE have indicated that they intend to
open their markets for after hours trading sometime next year.
Please collect issues and concerns that may arise in connection with extended hours trading
from others within your firm and be prepared to discuss them at the meeting. If you have any particular
issues which you would like to place on the meeting agenda, please include them on the attached
