RE: NOTICE OF MEETINGS - JULY 29-30 IN LOS ANGELES

The next meeting of the Compliance Advisory Committee will be held on Thursday, July 29th, at
the offices of Capital Research and Management Company, 333 South Hope Street, 55th Floor, Los
Angeles, CA. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will be followed by lunch. A draft agenda will be
circulated before the meeting. If there are particular issues you would like to discuss at the meeting,
please list them on the attached response form or call Frances Stadler at (202) 326-5822.
Following lunch, there will be a session featuring Tom Selman, Vice President, Investment
Companies/Corporate Financing, NASD Regulation, Inc., who will discuss current NASD issues
affecting mutual funds.
In addition, on Friday, July 30th, Committee members are invited to attend a luncheon meeting
of the California ’40 Acts Group. As you may know, the Group is made up of lawyers and other
professionals who generally work for mutual fund groups and investment advisers or their service
providers based in the western U.S., primarily California. The Group meets quarterly to discuss topics
of general interest. The July 30th meeting, which is being sponsored by PFPC Worldwide, will be held at
11:30 p.m. at the Museum of Television and Radio, 465 North Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90210.
The meeting will feature:
! a discussion highlighting current tax and pension issues for mutual funds, led by Keith
Lawson, Senior Counsel, ICI, Cathy Heron, Assistant General Counsel, Capital Group
Companies, and Ron Cohn, Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers; and
! a discussion of the recommendations of the Advisory Group on Best Practices for Fund
Directors, led by Paul Haaga, Executive Vice President, Capital Research and Management
Company, and a member of the Advisory Group.
