RE: INSTITUTE MEETING ON UNIFORM 401(k) FEE DISCLOSURE--
JANUARY 7, 1999

The Department of Labor’ Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration has requested
that the Institute and other 401(k) plan associations, including the American Bankers
Association and the American Council of Life Insurance, work together to develop a uniform
401(k) plan fee disclosure form. The Department has indicated that although it is
contemplating regulation in this area, it would be helpful if the 401(k) plan industry could
provide "uniform" fee disclosure form proposals for 401(k) plans. This "uniform" 401(k) fee
disclosure form project stems from the Department’s public hearing on 401(k) plans fees in
November, 1997.
A meeting of the 401(k) plan associations is scheduled for the middle of January 1999.
In order to discuss issues related to a uniform fee disclosure form, a meeting has been
scheduled on January 7, 1999 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Institute’s David Silver
Conference Room, 1401 H Street, N.W. Washington, D.C. Lunch will be provided. If you
