RE: CONFERENCE CALL ON INSTITUTE ROTH IRA COMMENT LETTER --
OCTOBER 29, 1998

On October 22, 1998, the Institute held a meeting on Roth IRA guidance issues. The
purpose of the meeting was to discuss Roth IRA issues to be included in the Institute’s
comment letter covering the proposed regulations, Notice 98-49 and Notice 98-50. In order to
follow-up on the discussion at the Roth IRA meeting on October 22, 1998, a conference call has
been scheduled for Thursday, October 29, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. EDT. Specifically, we will discuss
the following two issues on the conference call: (1) commenting on Notice 98-49’s requirement
to issue separate Form 5498s for recharacterizations in 1999; and (2) commenting on calculation
of earnings and losses on recharacterizations/reconversions involving commingled accounts.
Time permitting, we will discuss other Roth IRA guidance issues raised by participants on the
conference call.
