Register Today for IDC’s New Director Orientation Session

Registration is open for IDC’s next Foundations for Fund Directors® virtual orientation program on March 1–2, 2021. This popular program is designed for directors with up to five years of experience, but it also enables more-experienced directors to refresh their core skills. We encourage your newer board colleagues to participate. If you have any questions, please contact IDC’s conference team at conferences@ici.org.

Gary Gensler Selected to Lead SEC

President Joseph R. Biden has picked Gary Gensler to serve as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), subject to Senate confirmation. Gensler led the Commodity Futures Trading Commission during the Obama administration from 2009 to 2014. In a statement following the announcement, ICI President and CEO Eric Pan said about Gensler, “We are particularly excited to work with him in encouraging a global disclosure reporting standard for public company reporting of climate-related risks.” Pan said implementing a standard for climate disclosure would "help streamline how funds analyze climate risk and better serve the needs of investors—individual and institutional alike."

ICI Webinars Open to Directors

In addition to the webinars hosted by IDC, directors of ICI member funds can participate in ICI webinars on a complimentary basis. Directors may be especially interested in these upcoming webinars:

  • Today, at 2:00 p.m. (ET), an expert panel will discuss the new SEC rule on funds’ use of derivatives, including new board responsibilities. It’s not too late to participate.
  • On January 29, ICI will discuss the Department of Labor’s stance on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investments and provide an overview of the final rule and how it differs from prior guidance. The webinar also will address what impact the change in administration and change in control of the US Senate could have on the future of the rule.
  • On February 16, ICI will host a webinar on ESG that will feature prominent industry voices, including SEC Commissioner Allison Herren Lee, discussing the intersection of climate change risk and financial regulation, the roles of key sustainability standard setters, the market for ESG funds, and more.
