Save the Dates: IDC Foundations Director Orientation Program in 2023
IDC will hold its next orientation program for newer fund directors virtually Wednesday, January 11 through Thursday, January 12, 2023. Please register HERE. The Foundations for Fund Directors® program is designed for independent directors with up to five years of experience and can serve as a useful refresher course for all directors, no matter their level of experience. Topics include the structure of registered funds, directors’ role as fiduciaries, and director responsibilities. Participation is limited to independent directors of ICI member funds.
The next in-person Foundations program will take place Tuesday, June 13 through Wednesday, June 14, 2023 in Washington, DC. Please stay tuned for additional registration information.
IDC 2022 Fund Directors Conference On-Demand Viewing Available
Select recordings from IDC’s 2022 Fund Directors Conference are available on-demand for a limited time on the Conference App. Highlights include expert panels and speakers addressing the state of capital markets and the economy, insights on industry developments, and innovations in asset management. Registered conference attendees can access on-demand recordings by logging into the Conference App via their registration email and clicking on “Program.” If you are not already registered for the Fund Directors Conference, you may access the recordings on-demand for $195 by registering HERE. Please note that some recordings are available only until mid-December (with others available until mid-January 2023), so please do not wait to review those sessions in which you have an interest.

SEC Releases Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2022-2026
The SEC recently released its strategic plan for fiscal years 2022 through 2026. According to the plan, the SEC’s objectives include protecting the investing public against fraud, manipulation, and misconduct; developing and implementing a robust regulatory framework that keeps pace with evolving markets, business models, and technologies; and supporting a skilled workforce that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. In related comments, SEC Chair Gary Gensler observed that it is “critical that the SEC continue to evolve and modernize our [rule sets] as technology, business models, and our markets change.”
ICI and Other Trade Associations to Request 90-Day Comment Period Extensions
On November 16, ICI joined a number of other trade associations in requesting that the SEC extend the comment periods for its rule proposals on outsourcing by investment advisers and open-end fund liquidity risk management programs, swing pricing, and Form N-PORT. In a letter to the SEC, the trade associations note their “material concerns with the substance of the proposals,” and request that the SEC extend the comment period for each of the proposals by 90 days.
