ETF Assets and Net Issuance

Washington, DC, February 27, 2025—The combined assets of the nation’s exchange-traded funds (ETFs) were $10.69 trillion in January, according to ICI. The Institute’s monthly statistical collection also includes the value of shares issued and redeemed by exchange-traded funds.

Statistics contained in the Institute’s monthly ETF report have been obtained from information provided to ICI by exchange-traded funds and commodity funds. Commodity funds are listed in the Domestic (Sector/Industry) category.

Highlights: Assets of all exchange-traded funds rose in January by $385.42 billion, or 3.7 percent, to $10.69 trillion. Over the past 12 months, ETF assets increased $2.53 trillion, or 31.0 percent. Assets in domestic equity ETFs increased $1.98 trillion since January 2024, and world equity ETF assets rose $205.94 billion during this period. At the end of January 2025, assets of bond funds were $1.81 trillion and hybrid funds were $41.60 billion and commodity funds were $178.91 billion.

During January, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $97.28 billion. In January 2024, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $69.10 billion.
