[9676] February 13, 1998 TO: INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE No. 5-98 RE: RECENT PUBLICATIONS RELATING TO KOREA’S CURRENT ECONOMIC REFORM EFFORTS AND THE IMF BAIL-OUT PACKAGE ______________________________________________________________________________ We have recently received the following publications relating to Korea’s current economic reform efforts and the IMF bail-out package: "IMF Bail-Out and Korea’s Economic Reform" published in January, 1998 by the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade. This booklet describes the IMF's $57 billion bail-out package and the economic program to be implemented in Korea over the next three years. "Korea’s Reforms" published in January, 1998 by the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea. This is an outline presented by a Korean National Assembly Representative that argues for timely US financial assistance to Korea. Although it is a position piece, it contains a relatively good summary of Korea's reform package. "The Main Points of Reshaping the Central Banking System in Korea" published in January, 1998 by the Research Department of the Bank of Korea. This paper describes the consolidation of Korea's financial supervisory bodies. We have received permission to distribute copies of these publications to our members. If you would like a copy, please call me at (202) 371-5430, fax me at (202) 326-5841, or e-mail me at rcg@ici.org. Robert C. Grohowski Assistant Counsel
