RE: NOTICE OF MEETING - WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 1997

The Tax and Pension Committee meetings have been scheduled for Wednesday,
October 15, 1997. The Tax Committee will meet at 10:00 a.m. and the Pension Committee will
meet at 1:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Investment Company Institute, 1401 H
Street, N.W., 12th Floor, Washington, D.C. Committee members are invited to attend both
meetings that day.
A joint luncheon will be served immediately following the Tax Committee meeting and
preceding the Pension Committee meeting. Our guest lunch speaker will be Grete Carro,
Industry Specialist, Securities and Financial Service Firms, at the Internal Revenue Service. As
you may know, Grete is coordinating the IRS’ investment company audit program. If you have
questions for Grete, but prefer to raise them on an anonymous basis, please call Anne Barr at
(202) 326-5837, or Keith Lawson at (202) 326-5832, prior to the meeting.
Please remember that space at the meetings is limited to members of the committees or
their alternates. To assist us in obtaining an accurate registration of attendees, please indicate
on the attached form if you or an alternate plan to attend the meetings and luncheon.
Please mark your calendar for the Tax Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday,
February 4, 1998 at the Investment Company Institute in Washington, D.C. Please mark your
calendar for the Pension Committee meeting scheduled for Sunday, February 8, 1998 (the day
before the start of the Retirement Plans Conference) at the Sheraton Bal Harbour in Florida.
