May 13, 1997 TO: BOARD OF GOVERNORS No. 30-97 INVESTMENT COMPANY DIRECTORS No. 3-97 PRIMARY CONTACTS - MEMBER COMPLEX No. 28-97 SEC RULES COMMITTEE No. 51-97 RE: 1997 REGIONAL FORUMS FOR INVESTMENT COMPANY DIRECTORS ______________________________________________________________________________ As previously announced, the Investment Company Institute is holding two one-day Regional Forums for investment company directors in 1997. Enclosed is the program and registration form for the Forums, which will be held in Chicago on June 12 and Los Angeles on June 20. The Forums are especially useful for those fund directors who were unable to attend the Institute’s October 1996 Directors Conference in Washington, DC. Each Forum features two popular presentations from the 1996 Conference -- a panel on Ethics and Fund Directors, moderated by Dawn-Marie Driscoll, independent director of the Scudder Funds, and a session on What Makes A Fund Board Effective?, led by Professor Peter Tufano of the Harvard Business School. The Chicago Forum will feature a luncheon keynote address and question-and-answer period with Barry P. Barbash, Director of the SEC’s Division of Investment Management. Douglas J. Scheidt, an Associate Director in the Division of Investment Management, will be the luncheon speaker in Los Angeles. Also included is a panel on Mutual Fund Shareholders -- An In-Depth Profile, moderated by Sandra J. West, the Institute’s Director of Market and Policy Research. Other panelists will include Gary W. Blank of Retirement Plan Consulting and David Driskill of Driskill Associates and National Quality Review. Attendance at each Forum will be limited to no more than 75 directors, trustees, officers, and employees of Institute member firms. For more information about the Forum programs, please contact Angela C. Goelzer, Assistant Vice President for Director Services at 202/326-5834.
