April 21, 1997 VIA FAX AND REGULAR MAIL TO: PENSION COMMITTEE No. 8-97 RE: MAY 22 MEETING TO DISCUSS PLAN EXPENSE ISSUES & WISE TECHNICAL SUPPORT ______________________________________________________________________________ A meeting to discuss plan expense issues and technical issues associated with the Women’s Investment and Savings Equity Act of 1997 ("WISE") has been scheduled for Thursday, May 22, 1997. The meeting will be held from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. in the Institute's David Silver Conference Room, 1401 H Street, N.W., 12th Floor, Washington, D.C. A lunch will be served immediately preceding the meeting at noon. The purpose of the meeting is two-fold. First, we believe that a general discussion of plan expenses would assist both individual members and the Institute to clarify the unique services that mutual funds provide to the retirement saving industry. Second, we have been asked by Senator Gregg’s staff and the Senate Republican Task Force to provide technical assistance to the WISE bill. Specifically, we will review the bill’s "catch-up" provisions in detail to ensure that they are implemented in an administratively feasible manner. We hope to provide helpful suggestions and comments to Senator Gregg and the Senate Republican Task Force in a follow-up letter. I have attached a copy of the bill as introduced on April 17 (WISE bill is being sent via mail). Please feel free to call me with questions or comments at 202-218-3563. To assist us in obtaining an accurate registration of attendees, please indicate on the attached response form if you or an alternate plan to attend the meeting and luncheon. Kathryn A.
