October 8, 1996 Tax and Pension Committee Meetings
The Fall meetings of the Tax and Pension Committees have been scheduled for Tuesday,
October 8, 1996 at the Investment Company Institute, 1401 H Street, N.W., 12th Floor,
Washington, D.C. The Tax Committee will meet at 10:00 a.m.; the Pension Committee will meet
at 1:30 p.m. Committee members are invited to attend both meetings that day.
Jim Malloy, formerly the IRS Assistant Commissioner for Financial Institutions and
Products, will be our guest speaker at the joint Tax/Pension Committee Luncheon, which will
be served immediately following the Tax Committee meeting.
October 7, 1996 Tax Committee Meeting on Multiple-Class Funds and IRS Audits
Tax Committee Members or their designates also will meet at 2:00 p.m. on Monday,
October 7 for a detailed discussion of two recent developments:
1. preferential dividend issues, including a discussion of the recent IRS guidance
regarding multiple class funds (see Institute Memorandum to Tax Members No. 43-96,
dated September 10, 1996), and
2. the IRS audits of investment companies (See Institute Memorandum to Tax Members
No. 42-96, dated September 6, 1996).
Lunch will be available on October 7 beginning at 1:00 p.m.

committees, or their alternates. To assist us in obtaining an accurate registration of attendees,
please indicate on the attached form if you or an alternate plan to attend the meetings and
luncheon.
Please mark your calendar for the Tax and Pension Committee meetings scheduled for
Wednesday, February 19, 1997 at the Investment Company Institute.
