RE: 1996 ADVERTISING/MARKETING SEMINARS-SECOND NOTICE
______________________________________________________________________________
The Institute will conduct seminars on the basics of mutual fund advertising and
marketing for newcomers to fund marketing and communications. The one-day seminars will
feature presentations on the legal, creative, and strategic aspects of marketing mutual funds
directly to consumers; through a sales force; and in a bank environment. Speakers will include
Thomas Pappas, Assistant Director, Advertising and Investment Companies Regulation, of the
National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD), as well as industry legal and marketing
executives. The presentations will be designed to assist:
* newcomers to the fund industry;
* those who are new to the marketing function;
* non-marketing executives who are seeking greater familiarity with the marketing
function; and
* sales/marketing/public relations executives who have not recently attended these
seminars and are seeking a "refresher" course.
Registration for these seminars will be limited to employees of ICI member organizations
and their advertising/design/public relations agencies. Non-members of the Institute will be
required to supply a letter from the Institute member with which they have a business
relationship. Please register early, as space will be limited and it may not be possible to
accommodate walk-in registrations.
Videotapes of the Boston Advertising/Marketing Seminar will be available after the
session.
Topics to be Covered
The seminar is designed to provide basic information on various aspects of mutual fund
marketing, with the goal of providing ideas that attendees may integrate into their own
marketing programs. The morning will be devoted to the regulation of fund advertising and
sales literature; the afternoon to case studies presented by fund industry marketing executives.
A preliminary agenda is attached. The Investment Company Institute reserves the right to alter
this agenda as is necessary.
The seminars will begin at 9:30 am, and end at approximately 4:30 pm. Lunch will be
served. A networking reception for Boston seminar attendees will be held Tuesday, July 16,
from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Copley Plaza Hotel.
