May 2, 1996 TO: BOARD OF GOVERNORS No. 17-96 INVESTMENT COMPANY DIRECTORS No. 5-96 MEMBERS - ONE PER COMPLEX No. 31-96 RE: REGIONAL FORUMS FOR DIRECTORS -- SAN FRANCISCO FORUM JUNE 27. ______________________________________________________________________________ As previously announced, the Investment Company Institute is holding a series of one- day Regional Forums for investment company directors in selected cities around the country. Enclosed is the program and registration form for the third and final 1996 Regional Forum, which will be held in San Francisco on Thursday, June 27. The Forums are especially useful for those fund directors who were unable to attend the Institutes September 1995 Directors Conference in Washington DC. Each Forum features a popular presentation from the 1995 Conference -- a case study conducted as a business school class by Professor Peter Tufano of Harvard Business School and Professor Erik Sirri of Babson College. The San Francisco Forum will feature a luncheon keynote address and question-and- answer period with Kenneth J. Berman, Assistant Director of the SECs Division of Investment Management. Also included from the September Conference is a panel on industry trends, moderated by Institute Chief Economist John Rea. Other panels members will include Geoff Bobroff, President of Bobroff Consulting, Inc. and Kurt Cerulli, Principal, Cerulli Associates, Inc. Rounding out the program will be a small group discussion session, which will provide fund directors with an opportunity to share their thoughts with their peers on issues of common concern. Attendance at the Forum will be limited to no more than 100 directors, officers, and employees of Institute member firms. Registration for the San Francisco Forum will be open only to currently serving directors of Institute member investment companies through May 24. Registration forms received from other Institute member representatives prior to May 24 will be held until that date and then processed on a first-come, first-served basis, as space permits. For more information about the Forum programs, please contact Angela C. Goelzer, Assistant Vice President for Director Services, at 202/326-5834. For questions regarding registration, please contact the Institutes Conference Division at 202/326-5968. C. Richard Pogue Executive Vice President Enclosure
