January 17, 1996 VIA FAX TO: TAX COMMITTEE No. 2-96 ACCOUNTING/TREASURERS COMMITTEE No. 4-96 RE: FEBRUARY 5 MEETING ON PREFERENTIAL DIVIDEND ISSUES AND TAX COMMITTEE DINNER ______________________________________________________________________________ February 5 Meeting on Preferential Dividend Issues As you know, the Institute has made a number of submissions to the Internal Revenue Service ("IRS") and held several meetings with them regarding preferential dividend issues in the multiple-class and fund-of-funds contexts.* On February 5, 1996, the day before the next Tax Committee meeting, a special meeting of the Tax and Accounting/Treasurers Committees will be held to review our discussions with IRS and to consider recent factual developments and priorities in these areas. The meeting will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the David Silver Conference Room on the 12th Floor of our offices at 1401 H Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. Lunch will be available before the meeting, beginning at 1:00. February 5 Tax Committee Dinner At the last Tax Committee meeting, it was agreed that special meetings of the Committee (such as the February 5 meeting on preferential dividend issues) would be scheduled routinely for the afternoon before each Tax Committee meeting. As these "special meetings" will encourage more Committee members to arrive in Washington the day before Tax Committee meetings, we will host Tax Committee dinners at nearby Washington restaurants the evening before each Committee meeting. The first Tax Committee dinner is scheduled for Monday, February 5, 1996, at 6:30, in a private room at Taberna Del Albardero, 1776 I Street, N.W. The cost of the dinner will be divided among those attending. Fax Response Form Anyone planning to attend either the Preferential Dividend Issues meeting or the Tax Committee dinner, or both, should complete the attached fax response sheet and return it to Lisa Rand, at 202-326-5841, no later than Thursday, February 1. * * * * * We look forward to seeing you in February.
