BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING, JANUARY 27-31, 1996

January 11, 1996 TO: BOARD OF GOVERNORS No. 1-96 RE: Board of Governors Meeting, January 27-31, 1996 ______________________________________________________________________________ This memorandum contains information about to the Board of Governors meeting at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Palm Beach, FL January 27-31, 1996. I. Board Materials The materials for the Board’s business meeting will be mailed to your office by overnight service on January 24, 1996 for delivery January 25. If you want your Board materials sent to another location, please advise Karen Fernandes at (202) 326-5829 by January 19, 1996. II. Board Discussion on Wednesday, January 31, 1996 The second day of the Winter Board Meeting traditionally is devoted to discussion of issues facing the industry. This year the Wednesday morning session will begin with an 8:00 am breakfast featuring small group discussions covering the following issues: A. What troubles you in the fund environment? B. What should the industry do about it? The second part of the Wednesday morning session will address the partial privatization of Social Security. The staff has prepared a background paper that will serve as the basis for this discussion. That paper will be sent in a separate mailing within the next week. III. Board Activities A. Board Dinners For those arriving on Saturday, an "Early Arrivals Dinner" at a local restaurant has been scheduled. Monday night’s dinner is scheduled for poolside at the hotel and dress is casual. Tuesday’s dinner includes a ceremony honoring three former Chairmen, John Haire, George Bissell and Tom Powers. Dance music will follow dinner. Jackets are suggested for gentlemen. - Over - B. Spouses/Guests Breakfast, Monday, January 29, Tuesday, January 30 There will be an informal breakfast for spouses/guests on Monday, January 29 at 8:30 am in the Dining Room. A shuttle to Palm Beachs Worth Avenue shopping area will be available at 10:00 am with return times of Noon and 2:00 pm. There will also be a spouse/guest breakfast briefing Tuesday, January 30, at 8:30 am in the Dining Room. At 9:00 am the Ritz-Carlton Activities Coordinator will provide an overview of activities, tours and local area points of interest. Immediately after breakfast guests are invited to depart for a private 2 hour tour of the Flagler Museum, Palm Beachs signature attraction. C. Golf/Tennis Tournaments on Monday, January 29 The Institute will host golf and tennis tournaments on Monday afternoon, January 29. Please complete the attached Activities Response Form if you wish to participate. D. Optional Activities on Tuesday, January 30 An array of leisure activities are available at the hotel. Some choices will require reservations and are listed on the attached Activities Response Form. They include fishing, sailing, golf, tennis and an intracoastal yacht cruise. Most of these activities are scheduled for 1:30 pm and space is limited. E. Car Rental Availability The Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach is an oceanfront resort secluded at the southern tip of Palm Beach. While the hotel customarily retains several vehicles for rental on-site, to assure supply please indicate your interest on the Activities Response Form.
