March 28, 1995 TO: BOARD OF GOVERNORS No. 40-95 RE: MAY 3 LEGISLATIVE BRIEFING IN WASHINGTON, DC ______________________________________________________________________________ In conjunction with the May 3 Board of GovernorsG meeting, the Legislative Affairs Department has scheduled the fourth annual Board of GovernorsG Legislative Briefing in Washington, DC. A copy of the preliminary agenda is attached. In response to your suggestions, we have changed the format for the Legislative Briefing. We will begin before the Board of GovernorsG meeting with a breakfast presentation by Frank Luntz, the Republican pollster who masterminded the Contract with America. (See attached article.) Following the Board meeting, we will meet with Telecommunications and Finance Subcommittee Chair Jack Fields (R- TX) and the Majority Members of the House Commerce Committee at a luncheon meeting in the Capitol. Finally, we will conclude with in-depth briefings on the Senate side. Majority Whip Trent Lott (R-MS) and Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT), who is ranking member of Senate Securities Subcommittee and also serves as General Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, have been invited to share their respective views on: 1) the Senate response to the House Contract; and 2) the Democratic agenda as the minority party. The briefing is expected to end at 3:30 p.m. Historic changes are occurring in Washington. We have assembled opinion leaders and decision makers to discuss these changes and answer your questions. We are excited about the program we have organized and hope that you will be able join us for the entire event. Please return the attached response form at your earliest convenience. Please note: Chairman Fields has requested the biographies of the members of the Board of Governors who will attend he luncheon meeting. Please attach yours to the response form. We will keep you informed as the agenda develops. Please call me if you wish additional information. I look forward to seeing you on May 3.
