January 27, 1995 TO: BOARD OF GOVERNORS No. 16-95 MEMBERS - ONE PER COMPLEX No. 10-95 SEC RULES COMMITTEE No. 12-95 INVESTMENT COMPANY DIRECTORS RE: INVESTMENT COMPANY DIRECTORS WORKSHOP ON APRIL 18 _____________________________________________________________________________ As part of our continuing effort to assist investment company directors in fulfilling their responsibilities to shareholders, the Investment Company Institute will hold a special one-day workshop for fund directors and trustees at the Hotel Inter-Continental Chicago on April 18. As indicated on the enclosed Preliminary Program, the workshop will explore basic questions of board operations, contractual and regulatory issues, and other aspects of fund governance. The program is designed to be especially useful for fund directors who are relative newcomers to the industry. We are pleased to announce that Barry Barbash, Director of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Investment Management, will be a speaker at the workshop. Other speakers will include John Haire, Chairman of the Committee of Independent Directors, Dean Witter; Thomas Lemke, General Counsel, Strong/Corneliuson; Steven Paggioli, Executive Vice President, Wadsworth & Associates; and Richard Phillips, Partner, Kirkpatrick & Lockhart. Attendance at the workshop is limited to directors, officers and employees of Institute members. To register, return the attached registration form and the appropriate fee to the Investment Company Institute. Please make your own hotel reservations by calling the hotel directly (312/944-4100). We have a block of rooms reserved at the Hotel Inter-Continental at a special rate of $120, so be sure to mention the Institute when you call to make your reservation.
