FEBRUARY 2 LUNCHEON DISCUSSION TOPIC - ICI'S FUNDS SYSTEM

| Print
January 25, 1994 TO: PENSION COMMITTEE NO. 6-94 TAX COMMITTEE NO. 4-94 RE: FEBRUARY 2 LUNCHEON DISCUSSION TOPIC - ICI'S FUNDS SYSTEM __________________________________________________________ As you may be aware, the ICI maintains and operates an electronic communication network (known as FUNDS) linking the ICI with its members for the purpose of sharing statistical data and other information relating to the fund industry. The Information Services Division of the Institute is presently considering the expansion of services available on FUNDS. One of the proposed ideas would provide an electronically-accessible library and archive service of ICI-issued legal memoranda. This Lexis-like service would give members' legal and compliance staffs the capability (using their own personal computer) to perform key word searches and other criteria against electronic archives to extract copies of relevant ICI memos. During lunch on February 2, I would like to explore this idea further with you. Prior to the February 2 meeting, please give some thought as to whether such a library service would be useful at your organization. Additionally, it would be useful to have an idea as to the extent to which you or your staff have access to the following equipment: IBM-compatible personal computers, modems with dial-up telephone lines, and compact disk (CD) drives. Thank you, and I will see you on Feb. 2. Charles A. Eby Vice President Information Services
