April 14, 1993 TO: BOARD OF GOVERNORS NO. 33-93 MEMBERS - ONE PER COMPLEX NO. 31-93 FEDERAL LEGISLATION COMMITTEE NO. 10-93 INVESTMENT ADVISERS COMMITTEE NO. 8-93 PENSION COMMITTEE NO. 12-93 SEC RULES COMMITTEE NO. 35-93 TAX COMMITTEE NO. 21-93 INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE NO. 8-93 RE: GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS INITIATIVE: CONGRESSIONAL SURVEY AND REGIONAL GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS WORKING GROUPS __________________________________________________________ The Institute's Legislative Affairs Department is requesting important information concerning your willingness to participate in the Institute's Government Affairs programs and to meet with or contact Members of Congress on behalf of the mutual fund industry. Congressional meetings and contacts between Institute members and Members of Congress are an indispensable part of the Institute's Government Affairs program. These meetings and contacts provide an excellent opportunity for Members of Congress to hear directly from you about the impact of particular issues on the mutual fund industry. Those of you who have already met with or otherwise contacted Members of Congress know that member participation can make a distinct and positive contribution to the legislative process. The information requested on the attached survey will enable the Institute to coordinate industry contacts with Members of Congress, when appropriate, and establish Regional Government Affairs Working Groups. These Groups would be made up of Institute members in specific geographic regions and would enable the Institute to organize ongoing government affairs efforts at the regional/district level. Please be assured that the information you provide will be used for internal organizational purposes only. Under no circum- stances will any Member of Congress be contacted on your behalf without your permission and prior consultation. - 2 - Please complete and return the attached survey to Kathleen Bovello, Director - Legislative Communications, at the Institute. As always, your willingness to participate in the Institute's Government Affairs programs is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me or Kathleen at 202/955-3544. Julie Domenick Senior Vice President Legislative Affairs Attachment
