March 24, 1993 TO: BOARD OF GOVERNORS NO. 24-93 MEMBERS - ONE PER COMPLEX NO. 24-93 FEDERAL LEGISLATION MEMBERS NO. 6-93 FEDERAL LEGISLATION COMMITTEE NO. 6-93 RE: "WASHINGTON UPDATE" - GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS NEWSLETTER __________________________________________________________ Washington, DC is undergoing major transition this year. The Clinton Administration and the 103rd Congress, with 112 new House Members and 12 new Senators, have promised "change." Now, more than ever, it is essential to keep an eye focused on the nation's Capitol. As part of its Government Affairs Initiative, the Institute provides information about Congressional and Administration activities that affect the investment management industry. To that end, we have developed "Washington Update," a government affairs newsletter which will increase the reporting of events to Federal Legislation Members, the Federal Legislation Committee, and other interested members. Attached you will find the following: 1. The first edition of "Washington Update," the Institute's newsletter designed to inform members on a timely basis about the Government Affairs agenda. The March edition is the first that you will receive on a monthly basis. 2. A special edition of "Washington Update" with a listing of the members who sit on the key committees in Congress that most directly affect the industry. We ask that you review the list and let us know if you would be willing to contact any of these members on behalf of the industry if it becomes necessary. -2- 3. Copies of all 1993 memos sent to the Institute's Federal Legislation Committee. 4. A binder designed to house these and future materials. This binder contains two sections: one for "Washington Update," and one for Federal Legislation Committee memos. We hope that these items will prove useful to you and assist in the Institute's ongoing efforts to provide helpful and informative services. If you wish further information, please contact the Legislative Affairs Department at (202) 955-3544. This memo can also be found on FUNDS, the Institute's Fund User Network and Delivery System, under "Legislative Affairs; Washington Update."
