TO: Municipal Securities Advisory Committee RE: ICI Draft Letter Responding to MSRB Request for Information on ESG Practices in Municipal Securities Market; Comments Requested by Feb. 24

 

As we previously reported, the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board has issued a request for information (RFI) on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices in the municipal securities market. Responses to the RFI are due March 8, 2022.

Attached for your review is a draft of ICI's letter responding to the RFI. Please provide comments to Annette Capretta at acapretta@ici.org  by Thursday, February 24.

The draft letter explains that ESG practices in the municipal securities market vary significantly across the industry and continue to evolve. It also states that the industry is shaping disclosure practices through recommended voluntary best practices and market forces, which should be given time to continue to evolve before any regulatory actions are taken.
