On November 30, virtually, from Tokyo and Washington, DC, the Investment Trusts Association, Japan (JITA) and the Investment Company Institute (ICI) co-hosted a retirement savings roundtable. Eric Pan, ICI President and CEO, and Hiroshi Matsutani, JITA Chairman, hosted the two-hour event. Roundtable speakers included:

  • Toshiki Ono, Director, Private Pension Division, Pension Bureau, Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare, Japan;
  • Akiko Nomura, Managing Director, Research Department, Nomura Institute of Capital Markets Research; and
  • Sarah Holden, Senior Director, Retirement and Investor Research, Investment Company Institute.

Presentations and roundtable discussion provided insight into the retirement policy process in the United States and Japan; recent retirement reforms in Japan and the context for their consideration; and similarities and differences between the Japanese and US retirement systems. The event was translated simultaneously, and English and Japanese recordings are available.
