February 26, 2021 TO: Global Advocacy Coordination Advisory Committee RE: Meeting Notice for the Global Advocacy Coordination Advisory Committee - 25 March, 16:00 GMT/17:00 CET; Feedback Requested on Engagement Workstreams

The next committee meeting will take place on 25 March, 16:00 GMT/17:00 CET, on Zoom, and the calendar invite with the call details was sent to the committee members.  If you have not received the calendar invite, please let me know (adriggs@ici.org).

Proposed Agenda and Workstreams

We propose to focus our next call agenda around the four topics that we discussed on our last call (listed below), that the members indicated were their top EU engagement priorities.

Key priorities for EU engagement efforts

  1. EU sustainability/ESG agenda; with an update on global/US engagement (We are planning to start with this topic, doing a deeper dive where we need to engage, why, what issues are still/will be in play)
  1. EU financial stability, with an update on global/US engagement (including money market funds)
  1. Delegation (At this stage, where do you see a need for ICI’s engagement?)
  1. EU Retail Investment Strategy

Issues for general update/monitoring

  • Tax (including Public Country-by-Country Reporting)
  • EU digital files, at members’ discretion

Feedback requested

For each topic –

  • We would like your input if there are any engagement gaps that you are aware of, and whether ICI can add value by doing more in those areas.
  • We welcome thoughts on any sub-issues that may not be covered by current engagements or other trades/stakeholders, but which are important to your company and our industry, and where ICI can/should do more.
  • Please do not hesitate to share engagement ideas that involve not just policymakers but also stakeholders that may be potential allies and collaborators (other trades, think tanks, academic institutions).
  • We also would like to know if you may be interested in joining our engagement work/meetings on any of these issues when we have an opportunity to bring members or when we need your input quickly (For some of you, we may already know who you are – but do not hesitate to remind us – and we do encourage others to reach out, especially if you are not currently involved actively with this or other committees and we may not know of your interest).

For the future meetings –

  • We would like your thoughts on whether we should have guest speakers at our future meetings.  We are keeping in mind that our Regulated Funds Committee generally has speakers from EU bodies/NCAs, and this Advocacy/Engagement committee is invited to join those meetings.

With this context, we are thinking through whether there are speakers that can be of interest to this lobbying group vs legal/compliance committees.  For example, would it be useful/helpful for you to hear from Brussels-based financial attaches?  From which countries? For example, we can invite Slovenian representatives to our April/May call ahead of their Presidency to hear about their priorities.  Can this be of interest?
  • We also very much welcome a good member engagement on the calls, and we always look for “volunteers” to tee up the discussions.  If you are interested in doing this at the next meeting, please let me know which issue/topic.

We look forward to getting your input.  Feel free to reply by email (adriggs@ici.org), or we can always schedule a call if it is more efficient to discuss your ideas.
