November 21, 1991 TO: TAX MEMBERS NO. 51-91 OPERATIONS MEMBERS NO. 30-91 TRANSFER AGENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE NO. 55-91 RE: IRS INFORMATION REPORTING PROGRAM BULLETIN BOARD SYSTEM AND HOTLINE __________________________________________________________ A special feature of this year's Investment Company Institute Operations Conference was a panel composed of IRS representatives who discussed at length a variety of information reporting issues. During his overview of the activities and goals of the IRS' Information Reporting Program ("IRP"), John Devlin, the IRP Executive Director, discussed the Martinsburg Computing Center and its Information Returns Program Bulletin Board System. One key benefit of the Bulletin Board System is the ability to file information returns electronically. Attached is the IRS pamphlet on the Bulletin Board System that John Devlin referred to during his presentation. The pamphlet describes the features of the Bulletin Board and the ways in which it can be used. More technical information, such as how to log onto the system and how to transmit files, is also provided. The Bulletin Board System can be reached by dialing (304) 263-2749. During his presentation, John Devlin also encouraged the industry to direct questions regarding information reporting issues to the Martinsburg "IRP Hotline" at (304) 263-8700. We will keep you informed of developments. Keith D. Lawson Associate Counsel - Tax Attachment
