On June 23, 2020, ICI Global, the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, and the US Commercial Service (Japan) were pleased to host an informational webinar on Japan’s new foreign investment laws, featuring a representative of Japan’s Ministry of Finance (MOF).

The recently implemented Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act (FEFTA) significantly increases Japan’s screening of foreign direct investment.  MOF Director Hideaki Imamura presented on these new rules to help global regulated fund managers understand the changes to the foreign investment laws and how they apply to regulated funds and their managers.  The MOF presentation was followed by remarks from Tomoko Fuminaga, a partner at Morgan Lewis.  The webinar concluded with a facilitated Q&A session designed to answer practical questions foreign fund managers may have about the new rules.

A recording of the webinar and presentation materials prepared by the Ministry of Finance and Ms. Fuminaga are available to members at:  https://www.iciglobal.org/iciglobal/events/highlights/webinars/ci.20_webinar_icig_fefta_0623.global.
