Securities Operations Advisory Committee RE: German Ministry of Finance Launches MiFID II/MiFIR Consultation: Member Feedback Requested by March 1, 2019

The German Ministry of Finance has requested feedback on the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) II and accompanying Regulation on Markets in Financial Instruments (MiFIR). The ministry is seeking to gain a comprehensive understanding of the effects of MiFID II/ MiFIR from the perspective of financial institutions, market operators, issuers, and investors to identify whether there is a need for amendments to the framework.[1]

The ministry has stated its willingness to accept comments on any areas of the framework, including areas where greater integration with other national and European regulations would be desirable. The ministry plans to use feedback received to assist with its contribution to the European Commission’s report reviewing MiFID II and MiFIR, which is due by March 2020.  Responses to the ministry’s consultation should be submitted by March 15, 2019.

ICI Global does not intend to comment on this consultation, but we would like to hear member feedback on MiFID II and MiFIR. Your feedback will inform ICI Global’s participation in the MiFID II and MiFIR review process, and we would appreciate hearing from you by March 1. We also will solicit feedback at upcoming committee meetings.

To share your feedback, please contact Ahmed Elghzaly at ahmed@ici.org, George Gilbert at george.gilbert@ici.org, Eva Mykolenko at eva.mykolenko@icigobal.org, or Giles Swan at giles.swan@iciglobal.org.
