The Institute has sponsored investment adviser conferences since 1984. They have become an important event for the exchange of information and ideas among members of the industry. A highlight of each conference is the opportunity to participate in question and answer sessions with conference speakers following each discussion session. Conference attendees also receive a notebook of written material from each of the sessions, which has proven to be a valuable source of information to advisers who attend the conference. In addition to the speakers and panelists featured in the attached brochure, we are pleased to announce that Stephen A. Blumenthal, Minority Counsel to the Energy and Commerce Committee of the US House of Representatives, will speak on recent and anticipated legislative developments which affect investment advisers. Blumenthal joins other special guest speakers, including Marianne K. Smythe, the new Director of the SEC's Division of Investment Management, the Honorable Rick Boucher (D- VA), a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and the author of recent investment adviser legislation, and David George Ball, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Labor for the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration. We are also pleased to announce that Frank W. Terrizzi, President of Renaissance Investment Management, Inc., will speak on marketing for advisers. Throughout the conference, a vendor exhibition will feature products and services which are available to investment advisers. We urge you to complete the registration form included in the conference brochure and return it to the Institute as soon as possible. Hotel reservations should be made by calling the Sheraton Washington Hotel at 202/328-2000 directly. The hotel is a short walk from the National Zoo and is conveniently located next to Washington's Metrorail Woodley Park/National Zoo station.
