TO: RISK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE No. 1-13 RE: ICI RISK MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE TO HOLD IN-PERSON MEETING ON TUES. FEB. 26TH IN NYC WITH DINNER ON FEB. 25TH; RSVP BY FRI., FEB 8TH
An in-person meeting of the Institute’s Risk Management Committee has been scheduled on Tuesday, February 26th from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 3:00 p.m. (Eastern) in New York City. [1] Legg Mason has graciously agreed to host the Committee at their offices in the New York Times Building (620 8th Avenue). A draft agenda will be circulated in advance of the meeting. When making your travel arrangements, please consider joining me at an informal dinner of the Committee on the evening of Monday, February 25th from 7-9 p.m. The location of the dinner will be determined once we have a head count. (Members will be billed following the meeting for their pro-rata share of the cost.)
While there is no charge for attending the meeting, to attend you must RSVP by Friday, February 8th so we know how many members to expect. To RSVP, please use the attached form.
We have lined up two great outside speakers to address the Committee. These speakers are Erozan Kurtas of the SEC’s New York Regional Office, [2] and Jim McTague, the Washington Editor of Barron’s, who is the point person for Barron’s on fiscal cliff issues. He also wrote the book Crapshoot Investing: How Tech-Savvy Traders and Clueless Regulators Turned the Stock Market into a Casino, which is about high frequency trading. Jim will be presenting to the Committee on these issues as well as on Eurozone issues. In addition to these two speakers, the meeting will consist of a discussion of lessons learned from Tropical Storm Sandy and members’ issues that are submitted on the RSVP form. Accordingly, I encourage each of you planning to attend the meeting to provide us issues you’d like to discuss with your colleagues. We will also include the issues previously submitted by members for the October agenda, if the member submitting the issue plans to attend the February meeting.
If you have any questions, please call me at (202)326-5825 or email me at tamara@ici.org. I hope to see you at the meeting and dinner!
Tamara K. Salmon
Senior Associate Counsel
[1] This is a rescheduling of the meeting that had previously been scheduled for October 30, 2012 but cancelled due to Tropical Storm Sandy.
[2] Erozan Kurtas is a Senior Specialized Examiner focusing on Quantitative Algorithms, Computerized Trading, Risk Management in hedge funds, and Structured Products. He is the point person for the ongoing SEC review of quant shops.
