Below, please find information about the May 7-8 meetings of ICI’s International Committee and the Committee dinner, including draft agendas.
International Committee Meeting: The next meeting of ICI’s International Committee will be held on Monday, May 7th, from1-3 p.m. ET in the Institute’s David Silver Conference Room (DSCR), 1401H Street, NW, 12th Floor, Washington, DC. Lunch will be served prior to the meeting. At this meeting, we will have a presentation by Christopher Christian, partner at Dechert LLP, on certain similarities and differences between the regulatory frameworks applicable to U.S. mutual funds and UCITS (e.g., use of derivatives). Additional topics that will be covered include implications of a Eurozone break-up on U.S. funds, ICI’s activities on the Financial Stability Board’s “shadow banking” workstreams, and an update on recent India issues. International Committee Dinner: The annual dinner for International Committee members and international guests attending the Institute’s General Membership Meeting will be held on the evening of Monday, May 7th. International Operations Advisory Committee Meeting: Committee members are also invited to participate in the International Operations Advisory Committee meeting on Monday, May 7th at the Investment Company Institute. The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. ET and will end at approximately 12:00 p.m. Breakfast will be provided. ICI/EFAMA Joint Meeting: The annual joint meeting of ICI’s International Committee and the European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) will be held the following day, Tuesday, May 8th. The meeting will be held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. Representatives from member fund associations of the International Investment Funds Association, as well as members of ICI’s International Operations Advisory Committee, have been invited to participate. The meeting will take place from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. Breakfast will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m. and lunch will be served during the meeting. Topics will include the Volcker Rule, the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, efforts to develop a global legal entity identifier, perspectives on the work of IOSCO and the Financial Stability Board, as well as other U.S. and EU regulatory priorities impacting asset managers and funds, such as money market funds reform and capital markets reform. General Membership Meeting: ICI’s General Membership Meeting will be held on May 9-11. Like last year, attendees that register for GMM will have access to GMM as well as the Mutual Funds Compliance Programs Conference, the Operations and Technology Conference and the Investment Company Directors Workshop. This combination of events provides exceptional opportunities to hear from experts and industry leaders on a variety of topics. Confirmed speakers include Paul Haaga, Chairman of the Board, Capital Research and Management Company; Mellody Hobson, President, Ariel Investments; Mary Schapiro, Chairman, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; Howard Schultz, Chairman, President, and CEO, Starbucks; and George Lucas, Founder, Producer, and Director, Lucasfilm, Ltd.
