TO: INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE No. 21-11
The next meeting of the Institute’s International Committee will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. A preliminary agenda for the International Committee meeting is attached. We are expecting a full meeting and are pleased that Brian Reid, the Institute’s Chief Economist, will present from the London location on the state of the mutual fund industry. In addition Brian, together with Susan Olson, Senior Counsel – International Affairs (who will also attend in London), will discuss global regulatory trends and, in particular, the recent priorities of the Financial Stability Board and their impact on mutual funds. We will reserve time for Q&A.
We are also pleased to announce that Julien Bourgeois, a partner at Dechert LLP in Washington, DC, will discuss the SEC’s new rules on the registration of investment advisers. This presentation will focus on the application of the rules to foreign investment advisers and the provisions on participating affiliates. Julien will be available to answer questions.
In addition, Ari Burstein, Senior Counsel – Securities Regulation, and Heather Traeger, Associate Counsel – Securities Regulation, will discuss recent capital markets issues and derivatives reform.
At the meeting, we will also discuss recent issues for U.S. funds investing in foreign jurisdictions. We encourage members to contact us ahead of time with issues that they want to discuss, or to raise issues during the meeting. Lastly, we will leave time for Committee members to raise issues on which they wish to seek input from other members.
