TO: CHIEF COMPLIANCE OFFICER COMMITTEE No. 14-09     RE: PAULINE SCALVINO OF VANGUARD APPOINTED NEW CHAIR OF ICI'S CHIEF COMPLIANCE OFFICER COMMITTEE

I am pleased to announce that the ICI’s Board of Governors has approved the appointment of Pauline Scalvino, the Chief Compliance Officer of The Vanguard Group, as the new Chair of the ICI’s CCO Committee.   In addition to serving as Vanguard’s CCO, Pauline also serves as CCO of the Vanguard funds and of Vanguard Marketing Corporation, a broker-dealer.  Recently, Pauline also assumed responsibility for Vanguard’s enterprise risk and controls group.  She is an experienced industry veteran who has been with The Vanguard Group for over thirteen years.  During this time, she has been responsible for Vanguard’s corporate Compliance Department and previously headed up Vanguard’s Specialized Legal Services Unit, where she was responsible, in part, for legal issues relating to shareholder servicing and transfer agents, litigation, banking, trust and estate planning, contract and corporate matters, intellectual property and technology, privacy, and anti-money laundering regulations.   Prior to joining Vanguard, Pauline was a litigator with Stradley Ronon in Philadelphia.  She has spoken at several Institute conferences over the years.

Pauline’s five-year term as Chair of the CCO Committee began on October 1st with the expiration of Jim Davis’ term.  Jim has served as the Chair of the Committee since its inception five years ago.  Under his leadership, the Committee has grown and become a valuable resource to Institute members.  In addition to chairing the Committee’s two meetings a year, Jim has played an active role in both organizing and participating in the ICI’s annual Mutual Fund Compliance Programs conference, which was begun during his tenure as Chair.  The Institute is very grateful to him for his role in making the Committee a success.
