TO: ETF ADVISORY COMMITTEE No. 7-07 RE: ETF ADVISORY COMMITTEE UPDATE; CONFERENCE CALL MARCH 15TH, 2007 AT 2:00 P.M.; IN-PERSON MEETING, JULY 12TH, 2007
At the ETF Advisory Committee meeting on January 26th, 2007, Doug Scheidt, Chief Counsel and Associate Director at the SEC’s Division of Investment Management, discussed issues that have arisen as the staff has considered an ETF rule proposal. Mr. Scheidt told Committee members that their input would be welcome as the staff continues to work through these issues.
Members of the Institute’s staff are working to schedule a meeting with the staff of the Division of Investment Management in May, at which we plan to provide the staff with input on the Committee’s behalf. In advance of this meeting, we expect to have at least two conference calls with the Committee to discuss these issues and further develop the group’s views.
Our sense is that, to make the best use of our meeting with the SEC staff, we should focus on a relatively small number of issues on which we can offer constructive comments. Attached is a draft list of issues, based on the discussion at the first Committee meeting as well as comments from Committee members. If you have suggestions for additions to or subtractions from the list, please provide them to Mara Shreck at mshreck@ici.org or 202/326-5923. We will continue to revise the issues list as we prepare for our meeting with the staff.
The first Committee call to discuss these issues will be on Thursday, March 15th at 2:00 p.m. eastern time. The dial-in number is 888-566-5771 and the pass code is 67704.
Please let Suzy Richardson know if you plan to participate on the call. She can be reached at srichardson@ici.org or 202/326-5818.
The next in-person Committee meeting will be on Thursday, July 12th, 2007 at the offices of the Investment Company Institute, 1401 H Street, N.W., Washington, DC. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. eastern time and end no later than 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided. RSVPs will be requested at a later date.
Mara Shreck
Assistant Counsel
