July 19, 1990 TO: TAX MEMBERS NO. 26-90 OPERATIONS MEMBERS NO. 20-90 CLOSED-END FUND MEMBERS NO. 30-90 UNIT INVESTMENT TRUST MEMBERS NO. 52-90 TRANSFER AGENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE NO. 22-90 RE: FAILURES TO RECEIVE B-NOTICE TEST RUN MAILINGS __________________________________________________________ As we previously informed you, the IRS announced plans to send B Notice "test run" mailings in June to payors of interest and dividends regarding 1988 information returns for which payees' names and taxpayer identification numbers ("TINs") do not "match". (See Institute Memorandum to Closed-End Fund Members No. 22-90, Operations Members No. 15-90, Tax Members No. 19-90, Unit Investment Trust Members No. 38-90 and Transfer Agent Advisory Committee No. 15-90, dated June 14, 1990.) A few members recently contacted the Institute expressing concerns that they have not received test run mailings for all of their funds. The IRS believes that all such mailings should have been received by now and is interested in helping payors locate mailings that have not been received. If you have not received test run mailings for all of your funds and would like the IRS' help in locating the missing mailings, you may call Marilyn Turner of the IRS at (202) 566-3884. Marilyn will then coordinate efforts within the IRS to locate your test run mailings and attempt to correct whatever errors caused the mailings not to be received by you in the first place. We will keep you informed of developments. Keith D. Lawson Associate General Counsel KDL:bmb
