DOL Announces Appointments to ERISA Advisory Council

[19932] April 5, 2006 TO: PENSION COMMITTEE No. 11-06 PENSION OPERATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE No. 11-06 RE: DOL ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS TO ERISA ADVISORY COUNCIL The Department of Labor has announced new members of the ERISA Advisory Council. The Advisory Council is established pursuant to section 512 of ERISA to advise DOL and make recommendations. By law the 15 members must include representatives from various stakeholders of the employee benefit industry. Appointed to three year terms are: • Dennis Simmons, principal and senior counsel responsible for Vanguard’s ERISA Legal Department, representing investment management. Mr. Simmons is the current chair of ICI’s Pension Committee; • Robert M. Archer, a senior labor partner of the New York–based law firm Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein P.C, representing employee organizations; • Edward S. Mollahan, senior vice president at JP Morgan Chase Bank, representing corporate trust; • Edward A. Schwartz, president of the investment firm Gregory J. Schwartz & Co. Inc., representing the general public; and • William L. Scogland, a senior partner in Jenner & Block’s Chicago office, representing employers. 2 The 2006 Advisory Council chair is Sherrie Grabot, president of GuidedChoice. This year’s vice chair is James D. McCool, who is a senior vice president, corporate and retirement services, at Charles Schwab.
