May 30, 1990 TO: RESEARCH COMMITTEE NO. 11-90 RE: COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA AND PAPERS @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ The Research Committee will meet at the Madison Hotel, 15th and M Street, on Wednesday June 6, 1990, beginning at 9:30 a.m. We expect to adjourn by 3:30 p.m. You will find enclosed the background papers for this meeting. This includes proposals for research projects for the 1991 agenda which will be discussed in detail at the meeting as well as other initiatives underway. In order for you to develop a realistic assessment of our work load, the papers enclosed are divided into four groups: Group A, Potential New Projects; Group B, Carryover Projects and High Priority Work; Group C, Ongoing Data Collections; Group D, ICI Front Office Initiatives. You should be aware that there is little flexibility regarding the implementation of the projects in Group B, Group C constitutes our present fixed work load and Group D initiatives arise suddenly and are not planned in advance. Please direct your attention to considering the merits of the research proposed in Group A. These are not listed in any order of preference and during the meeting you may offer ideas for research which are not covered here. The Committee will discuss the proposed projects for new research. Following the June meeting we will send you a list of Group A topics, revised according to the discussion, and ask you to assign priority to projects to be included into our next fiscal year's agenda. We will tally all returns and factor this into our internal budget planning process and staff time allocation. For Committee members arriving in Washington the night before our meeting, we will organize an informal gathering over dinner. Please contact Abby Fisher, (202) 955-3581 to let us know if you wish to be included. We need to hear from you before June 1. We look forward to seeing you and as always, we welcome your help in developing our next year's research agenda. Jacob S. Dreyer Vice President and Chief Economist
