NEW OFAC ALERT MEMBERS MAILING LIST

| Print
ACTION REQUESTED [17725] June 30, 2004 TO: COMPLIANCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE No. 65-04 INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE No. 37-04 INTERNATIONAL OPERATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE No. 27-04 MONEY LAUNDERING RULES WORKING GROUP No. 24-04 TRANSFER AGENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE No. 57-04 RE: NEW OFAC ALERT MEMBERS MAILING LIST In the fall of 2001, the Treasury Department requested that the Institute begin to alert all of its members to notices from Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) relating to the blocking of assets pursuant to OFAC sanctions programs. As a result, the Institute now emails a memo to members every time OFAC publishes an alert relating to a change in any one of its sanctions programs or lists of sanctioned persons. It is very important that every Institute member have at least one representative receiving these memos. To assure that we reach individuals at every member firm, the Institute has until now forwarded OFAC notices to several large mailing lists. However, we have found that in practice we distribute the alerts to many individuals who do not need to see them, and we omit many persons who should receive and act on the alerts. Therefore, starting in mid-July, we will begin a new mailing list designed to more accurately target the persons who need to be aware of the OFAC alerts. We would appreciate your assistance in making sure that the new OFAC alert mailing list includes all of the appropriate individuals within your firm. We ask that you do two things: (1) As a current recipient of the Institute’s OFAC alerts, your name will be automatically added to the new OFAC Alert Members mailing list. If you do not wish to continue to receive OFAC-related memos, please send an email to memberservices@ici.org with the subject “OFAC Alert Opt Out.” (2) Circulate this notice within your firm and invite interested persons to join this mailing list. To join the list, one should send an email to memberservices@ici.org with the subject “Add to the OFAC Alert Members mailing list.” 2 The Institute will monitor the mailing list to assure that all member firms are represented. Questions about these mailing lists can be directed to memberservices@ici.org or (202) 326-5973. Thank you for your assistance. Robert C. Grohowski Associate Counsel
