DRAFT INSTITUTE LETTER REQUESTING GUIDANCE PROJECTS FOR TREASURY/IRS BUSINESS PLAN

[17422] April 26, 2004 TO: TAX COMMITTEE No. 15-04 PENSION COMMITTEE No. 22-04 529 PLAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE No. 16-04 RE: DRAFT INSTITUTE LETTER REQUESTING GUIDANCE PROJECTS FOR TREASURY/IRS BUSINESS PLAN Attached for your review is a draft Institute letter, to be submitted to the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service on Friday, April 30, requesting the inclusion of several guidance projects on the 2004-2005 IRS/Treasury Guidance Priority List (also know as the “business plan”). The requested guidance projects are divided into three categories: (1) issues for regulated investment companies (“RICs”) and their shareholders; (2) education savings issues; and (3) retirement security issues. This draft letter is based upon comments developed during conference calls with Institute members. If you have any comments on this draft, please provide them to the Institute staff by Thursday, April 29.
