November 8, 1989 TO: PENSION COMMITTEE NO. 15-89 RE: INSTITUTE LETTER TO IRS CONCERNING DELAY IN ISSUANCE OF PROTOTYPE PLAN OPINION LETTERS __________________________________________________________ As we discussed at the recent Pension Committee meeting, the IRS has indicated that the issuance of opinion letters for prototype plans will be delayed until the issuance of regulations under section 401(a)(4). Attached is a copy of an Institute letter to the IRS protesting this delay with respect to prototype defined contribution plans that are not paired with defined benefit plans.
