[13640] June 19, 2001 TO: PENSION COMMITTEE No. 36-01 PENSION OPERATIONS ADVISORY COMMITTEE No. 38-01 RE: MARK YOUR CALENDAR: SPECIAL COMMITTEE MEETING ON PENSION LEGISLATION - JULY 19, 2001 As you are aware, the President signed H.R. 1836, the “Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001” (EGTRRA) on June 7, 2001.1 EGTRRA includes substantial provisions relating to retirement plans. We have scheduled a special combined meeting of the Pension and Pension Operations Advisory Committees to discuss these provisions on Thursday, July 19, 2001. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss these provisions in detail, identify outstanding issues and questions, and prioritize any regulatory guidance needed to assist you in implementing the legislation. Please note that this meeting will be structured to facilitate discussion and is not intended to provide a general overview of the legislation. To that end, we hope to identify committee members to assist in leading the discussion on various topics (e.g., portability, catch-ups, mandatory rollovers, rules pertaining to 457 plans, etc.). If you are interested in doing so, please contact us. The meeting will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, 1000 H Street, NW, Washington, D.C. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until approximately 4:30 p.m. A continental breakfast and lunch will be served. For those needing a hotel reservation, the Grand Hyatt is holding a block of rooms for the night of July 18 at the rate of $159.00 single/$184.00 double. To receive this special rate, you must mention “Pension Committee.” For reservations, please call the hotel directly at 1-800-233-1234 or 202-582-1234.
