The study also identifies the interaction of participants’ financial decisions made inside and outside employer sponsored plans. The report is part of an ongoing ICI research program on the 401(k) plan market which examines the role and contribution of 401(k) plans in providing for retirement security. The enclosed report is designed to complement the detailed analysis of administrative records for 8 million 401(k) plan participants as published in Employee Benefit Research Institute and Investment Company Institute Perspective “401(k) Plan Asset Allocation, Account Balances, and Loan Activity in 1998”.
